The Role

Corporate Director of Place

c.£130,000 + up to £6,500 allowances + benefits

The best of London in one borough

A vibrant hub for business and communities, Tower Hamlets is the fastest-growing area of the country. And we’re making development count with big plans for everything from highways to housing. It all adds up to an exceptional opportunity for you as Corporate Director of Place, with exposure to diverse projects of impressive scope and scale.

A member of our senior leadership team, you’ll make our borough the best it can be. With the help of your whole Directorate, you’ll drive borough-wide regeneration to meet key challenges. These range from providing affordable homes and sustaining economic growth, to improving the environment and creating fantastic neighbourhoods. There’s also the task of bringing our Waste contract in-house and overseeing our move to a new Town Hall. Then, there’s our ambitious capital programme – worth c.£300m.

This isn’t just about leading teams and strategies, although that’s a key part of the role. It’s about expertly driving delivery of multiple projects and programmes. You should therefore be an inspiring strategic leader who’s managed a complex function before, with knowledge of the social, economic and planning issues facing inner cities. A clear view of our projects is vital, along with pin-sharp commercial acumen, especially when it comes to dealing with trading arms and major construction programmes. A firm grasp of the private sector property market will be particularly important, as you’ll need the knowledge to anticipate trends and the confidence to negotiate.

With this expertise, you’ll be a credible leader who can earn the trust of local people as well as our many partners. Collaborative and open, you’ll connect with everyone from investors to service managers.

Join us and turn our vision for change into a positive lasting legacy.
